Carmanah Acquires Chipper Business Unit Of Nicholson Manufacturing Canada

CARMANAH Design and Manufacturing Inc. (“CARMANAH”) today announced that it has acquired the Chipper business unit from NICHOLSON Manufacturing Ltd. (“NICHOLSON”). Effective October 1, 2005, CARMANAH will be responsible for the future supply of all spare parts, capital equipment and service for the Chipper product line formerly owned by Nicholson Manufacturing Ltd.
Carmanah is a privately held company located in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. Serving customers in the Pulp and Paper, Engineered and Solid Wood industries, the company has become a world leader providing innovative and high quality products. Carmanah and its predecessors have a 90 year history in the Forest Industry (previously as CAE Machinery up to 2003) and have been at the forefront of many innovations in chipper technologies through the years.
Jim Best, Carmanah’s President and Chief Executive Officer expressed the company’s sentiment and excitement, stating that “Nicholson’s excellent reputation supplying a high quality product and world-class service were key in our decision to proceed. The integration of the Nicholson and Carmanah chipper product lines and our ongoing commitment to the chipper business will allow us to offer customers a high level of service and a wider choice of equipment options”.
We are looking forward to supplying Nicholson’s chipper customers with the same high level of support and service they received from Nicholson in the past. Customers purchasing their Nicholson chippers and parts through agents should continue to do so unless notified otherwise.
Scott Nicholson, Vice-President of Sales and Service for Nicholson Manufacturing, echoed Jim Best’s comments stating that “the decision to divest ourselves of a product line that we have marketed for over 40 years was a tough one, but an important step in our strategy of focusing on our core product line, ring Debarkers. We at Nicholson remain dedicated to being the world’s leading supplier of ring debarking technology. We believe our customers and the industry will be well served by Carmanah and their ongoing commitment to the chipper product line.”
As part of the acquisition, Carmanah will receive all of the existing customer and engineering records and the manufacturing detail for the complete chipper product line, including capital equipment and spare parts. The acquisition also includes Nicholson’s existing spare parts inventory. The inventory currently located in Seattle, Washington, and Sidney, British Columbia will be relocated to Carmanah’s warehouse in Vancouver, B.C. and the inventory located in Pell City, Alabama will be relocated to Carmanah’s warehouse in South Carolina. Inventory will be transferred on Friday September 30, 2005 and will be available for shipment to customers starting Monday October 3, 2005. Inventory held by agents will remain in place at their facilities. Prior to the transfer date, Carmanah will be contacting each of the existing customers providing contact and support details.
