These types of heat sinks can function at their overall full capacity through maintaining the steady flow of air that is moving across its fins.

Active heat sinks

Another type of heat sink is the active one. It is described as that type that utilizes power. In many cases, they are designed to be fan types or a form of any Peltier cooling unit. People who are in the process of getting their active heat sink are advised always to focus on getting those fans that have motors that are of the ball-bearing type. This is because ball-bearing ones tend to last longer when compared to the lifetime of a sleeve bearing. The active heat sink is often referred to as the heat sink and fan type.

Aluminum and copper heat sinks

There are often two materials in which these heat sinks are commonly made of. The first type is the ones made from copper. Preferably, heat sinks should be made from these materials because copper is a very good material when it comes to dissipating heat since it can absorb heat fast. However, it is a bit pricey though so not a lot of manufacturers of heatsinks are going for it as their main component.

Most of the heat sinks that are available in the market today are the aluminum kind. While aluminum may be less a performer when it comes to heat dissipation, it does the job, and it is a much more affordable option as well. So, it should not come as a surprise to see that most of the heat sinks in the market are made from this material.
