CARMANAH Design and Manufacturing Inc. (CARMANAH), a privately-owned Canadian company located in Surrey, B.C. Canada, designs and manufactures equipment for the panel and engineered wood products, pulp and paper, and sawmill industries. Previously located in Vancouver for over 90 years, CARMANAH relocated its offices, manufacturing and warehousing facilities to Surrey, B.C. (approximately 20 minutes southeast of the Vancouver location). This move was effective August 22, 2011.
Providing leading edge technology and equipment to optimize fibre utilization for the production of wood-based panels, CARMANAH’s products include SmartDISC Stranders, SmartRING Stranders and Panel Testing equipment, for the oriented strand board market. As a global leader in stranding technology, CARMANAH holds an impressive 80% of the market share in this field.
Equipment for the sawmill and pulp and paper industries includes Chippers, Screens and Debarkers. Carmanah has a long history supplying and servicing chippers and providing OEM quality parts globally. CARMANAH chipper brands include Sumner, Black Clawson, CAE and Nicholson for waste-wood, whole-log, pellet and veneer applications.
In North America, CARMANAH has a license agreement to manufacture and sell the Fuji King Debarker. Since bringing this rotary technology to North America in the early 1990's, the product has done extremely well with sales of over 50 units to North American operations.
CARMANAH is a major service centre for pulp and paper equipment, and also offers its customers the services of its lab testing facilities for stranding. Many of CARMANAH's employees are graduates of local technical institutions such as British Columbia Institute of Technology, and the engineering and forestry faculties of the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University.
